-Excellent presentation of a classic novel
An excellent translation to the stage of one of the great classics of French literature. It is faithful to the original novel, while adding some surprising elements of the mise en scène that I enjoyed very much. In addition to that, it was a pleasure to hear the elegant 18th-century French pronounced as it was meant to be, with all of the beautiful liaisons. NOTE: in French.

Visite guidée, Excursions: Visite guidée : le Panthéon

-A nice tour that establishes a lot of the sociopolitical context in which the Pantheon was built
This is a very nice guided tour of the Pantheon. It's in French, so be sure that you are comfortable in that language before signing up for it. I learned quite a few things about the Pantheon that I didn't know, despite the fact that I'd already visited it several times. In particular, the guide's observations on the sociopolitical context of its building, and in particular the role of monumental architecture in that context, were quite illuminating.

Comédie: Alimentation Générale

-Excellent staging, fascinating characters
I love this play--I've actually seen it twice now, and I'll be sorry to see it end! The American interest in zombies has no real equivalent in France, where until recently the French-language Wikipedia page on zombies was only a few lines long, versus multiple pages on the English-language Wikipedia. This entry of the theme of the zombie apocalypse onto the French stage is therefore all the more amazing. It features inventive staging, fascinating characters, and an excellent cast that handles multiple roles with aplomb.

Comédie: La guerre des sexes

-Hilarious
From about 5 minutes into the show until the end, the audience was laughing almost continuously--this is a very, very funny show. If you are Anglophone, you will find this piece to be an excellent challenge to your language skills, as well as your knowledge of French culture; you will probably laugh only a fraction as much as the native speakers do, but it's still a great time. I'm actually planning to go back a second time to see if I can follow more of the dialogue.

Théâtre classique: Les Fourberies de Scapin

-The best presentation I've seen of one of Molière's comedies
Without exaggeration, this is the best presentation that I have ever seen of one of Molière's comedies. Every part of the show is imaginative--the staging, the directing, the music, all of it. The young actors are amazingly versatile, and they do a wonderful job with this piece. You should not miss this.

Théâtre de l'absurde: La Cantatrice chauve

-Nuanced presentation of a classic of Absurdist theater
This was a really delightful show. It has been playing continuously at the Théâtre de la Huchette continuously since 1957, and I could see why it's so popular--it's a really good and nuanced presentation of a famous piece of Absurdist theater.

Lecture / Poésie / Contes: Poésie, Oui !

-A very nice evening of poetry and its background
The basic format of this show: Laurent Perreaux talks about French poets and some of the inspirations for their works. Then he recites some of their poetry. Perreaux has an interesting delivery, and subsequent to seeing this show, I've found that if I can imagine his voice in my head while I read poetry, it actually makes a bit more sense from the point of view of rhythm and rhyme. If you like French poetry (and understand French) you'll find this a very enjoyable evening.

Théâtre classique: Le Tartuffe

-Excellent presentation of a great classic
An excellent presentation of a classic, in a very non-classic way. The direction was really wonderful--very different from the usual Comédie Française style, and really quite delightful. The characters of Orgon and Tartuffe were especially interesting. If you're a Molière fan, you will really enjoy this.
